I served in the nursery at my church with little ones from 18 months to 3 years old for a year and you know what song I would always come home singing? You guessed it! Jesus Wants Me For a Sunbeam.
It is a beautifully sweet song with a tender message. But sometimes when I would sing it to myself, especially on hard chemical dive days, I would wonder how I could shine through my depression and anxiety. That is where the inspiration for the 3rd verse comes from.
Jesus wants me to happy.
And every day I try.
But then life gets overwhelming.
And sometimes makes me cry.
But if I have learned anything in battling depression and anxiety is that if you can catch even a ray of sunshine and find someone to serve, it lifts the burden of it for that moment, and often for the rest of the day.
It doesn’t take much to shine your light. You can be a sunbeam to anyone through an even a simple act of kindness. You don’t have to be the sun, Jesus is already shining that brightly for all of us.
