Jesus Read the Scriptures

…and so can you.

I can tell you for certain that scripture study in my home doesn’t look like this, but this family gives me hope that one day my kids will grow up and pay attention.

I love their example and learned so much from observing them.

Their study started with a prayer.

They opened up to where they left off.

Then each person took a turn reading.

They paused to clarify who was speaking in the scriptures.

They seemed to build on the last thing they read. Easier to do with daily reading I am certain.

It was short and sweet.

Then came the stretch. Too funny. Scripture study does help you stretch your understanding of God. Right!

And the smiles. You could feel the light that reading brought into the home.

During the shoot I moved a book that was blocking a shot. I didn’t know how special that book was.

Alina explained to me the history of that little book.

When she was a a young girl living in war torn Armenia, everything was really dark, dusty and dismal. Someone generously printed this little Bible story books in color and donated them to her town.

She was lucky to get one. She described it as the only color in her life at that time.

She read it every day. It was how she learned all the stories of the Bible and when her love of the scriptures began.

Now she serves her family by sharing her love for those stories and the stories of The Book of Mormon and other scriptures with them. And what a beautiful service that is.

What are your family goals for scripture study? We strive for every day, even if it is just for a few moments. Leaving this photoshoot I have given myself a new goal: Do my children know and feel my love for the scriptures? I am so thankful for them. I know the scriptures are the word of God. I love the Book of Mormon and know it is a true book of scripture too. It has blessed my life more than I could ever express. I gained a powerful testimony of it as a youth. I wanted to know if it was true. I always heard people say how they knew it was true. I was a bit jealous that I didn’t have that testimony. So I knelt down at that very moment and offered up a sincere prayer to God. I learned that day that he answers prayers and that his spirit confirms truth in a way that you can’t deny and is often impossible to explain. It just needs to be experienced.

I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things. Moroni 10:4-5

Have a blessed Christmas season. Service doesn’t have to be limited to Christmas. It is actually happening every day within in your own home as you share your love with your family. Scripture study is just one way you do that.

And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins. 2 Nephi 25:26
